about

"Walking Away" is a sad song to say the least. Revolving around the themes of desertion and abandonment, Murphy's voice clearly conveys these strong emotions in his delivery with lyrics such as "all I can do is turn my back again." Successfully building into an engaging hook, this piece is able to contrast the generally light instrumentals with the dark message of the lyrics effectively, making for an emotionally and instrumentally complex piece.

lyrics

Trying so hard not to hurt you
Every day is a desertion
All I can do is turn my back again

Walking away, I am walking away
Walking away, I am walking away, and

Holding on, tumbling
Holding on and falling down

I heard what it felt like to you
And I know what it seemed like to me
I’m sure it was much more extreme
Than our words and emotions can tell

Misted fear in my eyes, and
Twisted fate in my throat
Trying to look away
Will the way ever be clear?

I’m trying to look away . . . but the way will never be clear
